A Defibrillator could save your life

The Giving Thanks to the Golden and District Hospital 2018 is focusing on raising funds for a new Lifepak Defibrillator for the Trauma room at a cost of $24,096.

Atrial fibrillation, often called AFib or AF, is the most common type of heart arrhythmia.
An arrhythmia is when the heart beats too slowly, too fast, or in an irregular way.
When a person has AFib, the normal beating in the upper chambers of the heart (the two atria) is irregular, and blood doesn’t flow as well as it should from the atria to the lower chambers of the heart (the two ventricles). AFib may occur in brief episodes, or it may be a permanent condition.

Nine percent (9%) of people over the age of 65 have AFib!! In a room of 20 people, it is almost certain that one will suffer from AFib. In the USA an estimated 130,000 deaths occur each year and the death rate has been rising for the past decade as the population ages.

Lifepak Defibrillator
In February 2018 my heart went into permanent Atrial fibrillation. I was lucky as I have a pacemaker, implanted in 2011, which took control of the heart rhythm.

Would the next patient be so lucky?

With less than a week to go, the 2018 fundraiser stands at $5,550 so we still need your support.

Can you help with a donation today??
